Sherri Jenkins: Empowering girls through the Girl Scouts

For AgFirst IT Audit Manager Sherri Jenkins, the Girl Scouts has always held a special place in her heart. Starting as a Brownie, she now experiences a full-circle moment by serving on the board of the Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands.

“My time with the Girl Scouts from an early age was transformative because it made me feel that I mattered. When someone lets you know that you matter, it’s limitless to what you can accomplish,” Jenkins said.

The Girl Scouts instilled in her the belief that she could make a difference, a sentiment she now strives to pass on to others. “People need to know they have a support system, and I try to be that support while also holding them accountable for their own success,” Jenkins said.

As a board member, Jenkins collaborates with other leaders to guide the strategic direction and priorities of the organization. Before joining the board, she served on the finance committee, raising funds and ensuring they were used to uplift more girls in the community. Her service is all in support of the organization’s mission of building courage, confidence and character among girls throughout the state.

The Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands is one of AgFirst’s community partners. This year, the bank donated $15,000 to the organization, which serves more than 7,500 girls across 22 counties in South Carolina and enables them to discover their strengths, rise to new challenges and make their communities better places.

For Jenkins, having an employer that supports a cause close to her heart is incredibly meaningful.

“To know that AgFirst supports girls means so much to me,” she said. “These girls are our future, and AgFirst’s investment in them through its continuous support of the Girl Scouts takes them one step further in becoming tomorrow’s leaders.”
